Ever wonder what the Festival looked like nearly 95 years ago? 👀
We’re kicking off our new series #FromTheCollection✨, featuring works from the Permanent Art Collection with this 1935 painting by Joane Cromwell (1895–1969) titled “Festival in Laguna.”
The work offers a glimpse into Laguna Beach’s early art scene from an artist who helped shape it. Cromwell made Laguna Beach her home in 1922 and was a charter member of both the Laguna Beach Art Association and the Festival of Arts. She exhibited at the Festival from 1936–1969, becoming a familiar figure in the local arts community.
