TODAY, Tuesday 10/20: Caltrans Update on PCH
Caltrans will close both southbound lanes of PCH between Reef Point Drive and Irvine Cove Drive and shift traffic in both directions to the two northbound lanes, one lane each way. The change begins once Caltrans receives approval from California State Parks and the California Coastal Commission, which could be as early as Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Phase 1 is complete: this past weekend, contractors placed plastic sheeting over the crack to keep rainwater out of the slope ahead of forecasted rain.
Phase 2, pending authorization, will add a fill buttress at the base of the slope, armored with large rocks. Crews can only do this work at low tide.
