THANK A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER - IT’S THEIR SPECIAL DAY, TUESDAY, APRIL 22

 

The Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) joins the entire state in

celebrating Tuesday, April 22, as California School Bus Drivers’ Day, officially honoring school bus

drivers for their continued and excellent services to the children of our community.

 

CUSD encourages parents, school employees, and school children to recognize school bus

drivers as an important part of their everyday lives. If you happen to be driving by or traveling on a

school bus on April 22, express your gratitude to the driver with a big wave or thank you.

The district employs 85 bus drivers and maintains a fleet of 160 yellow buses. Each day bus

drivers for the district safely transport approximately 3,100 students, more than 6 percent of district

enrollment, to and from school over an area spanning 200 square miles, according to Carlos Chicas,

CUSD Director of Transportation.

 

“Our bus drivers often set the tone for the day as a student’s important first daily contact with a

school employee, and they provide necessary support for services for the delivery of educational

programs and extra-curricular activities,” he said.

Despite the number of school buses being operated throughout the state, school buses remain one

of the safest modes of school transportation. This can be attributed to the school bus drivers’

commitment to safety, their excellent driving skills, and attention to detail.

 

School Bus Drivers’ Day is promoted by the Governor’s Office, the State Assembly, and the

California Assn. of School Transportation Officials, a professional organization that promotes safe pupil

transportation and advocates for continued high standards for California’s school bus drivers.
