Did you know that ARCE has an office in Luxor? Come meet and listen to ARCE's very own Luxor

Egyptologist, Dr. Andrew Bednarski, as he explains ARCE's role in establishing training programs for

Egyptian inspectors in conservation and archaeology and preparing several Theban monuments for

visitors.

 

Between 2011 and 2014, ARCE undertook an ambitious program of work in Luxor, employing

approximately 1000 local people. For the past three years, Dr. Bednarski has directed ARCE's

excavations in and around TT 110, the tomb of Djehuty, royal cupbearer to both Hatshepsut and

Thutmose III, as well as spearheaded ARCE's project to record the former hamlets of Sheikh Abd el

Qurna.

 

The results are spectacular. The newly cleared Sheikh Abd el Qurna, the recently opened

temples of Deir el Shelwit and Mut, and the newly conserved, excavated, and opened tomb of Djehuty

attest to the success.

 

Dr. Andrew Bednarski earned his Ph.D. in Egyptology at

Cambridge University. He has excavated extensively, and

published broadly on ancient Egyptian civilization. His

personal area of research is the history of Egyptology, a

subject he addresses in his most recent book, The Lost

Manuscript of Frédéric Cailliaud, which was published by

ARCE through the American University in Cairo Press.
