Eighty-Five Student Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Eighty-Five Student Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Eighty-five student athletes from six Capistrano Unified School District (District) high schools signed formal National Letters of Intent (NLI) on Wednesday, announcing which NCAA Division I or II four-year university they plan to attend this fall as a student-athlete. The high school seniors were honored at special signing ceremonies on their respective campuses.

The NLI is a binding agreement between an NCAA school and a student-athlete in which the student-athlete agrees to attend the school for one year and the school agrees to provide financial aid to the student-athlete. Signing an NLI essentially puts an end to the recruiting process since participating schools are prohibited from contacting a student-athlete who has already signed an NLI with another school.
Capistrano Unified School District continues to produce stand-out student athletes, year-after-year, who are recruited heavily by universities across the nation and often move on to successful collegiate athletic careers. From among the 85 students who signed Letters of Intent, San Clemente High School led the District with 26 collegiate signings followed closely by Tesoro High School with 20 signings. There were 14 students from Capistrano Valley High School who signed Letters of Intent and 13 students from Dana Hills High School. Rounding out the field was Aliso Niguel High School with 10 signings and San Juan Hills High School with two.
“We are proud of our student athletes and what they have accomplished both in competition and in the classroom,” said Capistrano Unified School District Superintendent Kirsten M. Vital. "These 85 high school seniors have achieved athletic excellence that has opened doors for them to some of the top collegiate athletic programs in the nation. We celebrate them as they sign the National Letters of Intent and also commend them for being role models and reminders to their fellow students that true success comes when both athletic and academic performance are achieved.”
The following high school seniors, representing Capistrano Unified School District, have signed National Letters of Intent to play collegiate sports at the named NCAA universities during the 2015-2016 academic year:
